For our last day at the second (first school for some), all the interns met with their kids at Gydropark. This is one of my favourite places in Kiev to visit. It has lots of food stands and open air restaurants, lots of crowds, paintball, an outdoor gym, tennis courts, rock climbing, and it’s all on islands in the middle of the river on the beach with a cool view of the city. Before noon all the kids and all the interns found a shady spot on the main drag. We did some frosh cheers, played some games and just hung out. There were seven different countries represented by the interns and we all introduced ourselves and said a little bit about where we were from.
A lot of the kids took off after they got bored, which is the beauty of Ukraine. The few teachers who did come with us for the day don’t care what the students do, so they’re free to go. In North America, they would be numbered off every five minutes and tied together for a walk anywhere and the parents would expect nothing less. The small group who did stick around for the afternoon were perfectly happy finding their own place on the beach. So instead of teaching all afternoon, we just found a quiet spot on the sand and relaxed. I need to find more jobs like this.
