We scrounged up some cash and headed to Korea’s version of Disney World. It even has it's own big castle and characters walking around. Lotte is one of the biggest companies here and seems to own everything, from hotels to chocolate bars, department stores and salad dressing. Lotte World isn’t too far from downtown Seoul, just South of the city. We took the subway to get there and didn’t even get lost. The park is huge and tons of fun. There is a huge indoor part with big roller coasters and other rides. There are Disney-like rides like the Pharaoh’s tomb and jungle ride similar to ‘It’s a Small World’ or something. There are huge outdoor rides like insane roller coasters, the Gyro Drop and the Gyro Spin. There is a monorail that connects everything together, but it’s not a bad walk around either.
We heard it can be pretty busy but we lucked out with good timing. It was just at the end of summer’s busy season, plus it was during mid-term time, so there were hardly any kids around. We got on most rides right away. We passed right by some signs that said it would be a two hour wait from that point. The longest we waited was about 30 minutes, but some big rides we got off and right back on again. There were some cooler indoor ones like something similar to ‘Space Mountain’ and a 3D haunted house movie.
There were lots of funny Korean things to laugh at too. The couple’s shirt phenomenon was everywhere. Lots of shoulder bunching going on like Punch buggy. Everyone also buys silly little bows or animal ears on a headband to wear too. Even a lot of the guys do it. There was a hilarious parade around the skating rink inside too. A lot of the performers and floats were similar to Disney movies or characters with just enough twist to avoid copy right infringements. And I think the second most popular job for foreigners here must be to dress as a character at Lotte World. Tons of the dancers and characters were white people.
It was such an awesome day. We spent way more time there than we though and stayed way later than we planned. We got on a ton of rides. Some people go and only do a few of the big ones because they are stuck in two hour lines for each one.
